New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to Stump for Chafee in Warwick Monday
(Warwick, Rhode Island, October 28, 2010) Lincoln Chafee, independent candidate for Governor, today announced that independent New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will travel to Rhode Island Monday to join him on the campaign trail.
“I am proud and honored to have Mayor Bloomberg campaign with me here in Rhode Island,” Chafee said. “He is one of our nation’s foremost leaders and most successful businessmen, and I look forward to discussing with him the immense problems Rhode Island faces and my plans for job creation and economic growth. There is no question that this election is about the economy, and as Governor I will bring good, high-paying jobs to our state and close the budget deficit.”
Mayor Bloomberg previously appeared at a September Chafee event at Providence’s Biltmore Hotel. In his remarks, Bloomberg praised Chafee’s “distinguished career” and stated that his name brings to mind “experience and integrity.” Rhode Islanders can trust Chafee, Bloomberg said, to put their interests “ahead of party interests” and to “produce results – because that’s exactly what he did as a mayor and as senator.”
“Mayor Bloomberg and I share the core convictions of independence, fiscal responsibility, ethics, and commitment to the public trust,” Chafee concluded today. “He is a great man and a great leader, and I’m proud to have him travel to Rhode Island on my behalf to help spread my message of honesty, integrity, and independence.”
Further details on Mayor Bloomberg’s visit will be made available before Monday.
Lincoln Chafee, former Mayor of Warwick and former US Senator, seeks to become the first independent Governor in Rhode Island history, running on a platform of honesty, proven experience and political independence.
Linc Chafee is a tested leader of unquestioned integrity and a strong independent voice. As Governor, he will work hard to create new jobs, rebuild our economy, solve our chronic budget problems, end corruption, and forge a new way forward for Rhode Island.
